This course was very thorough, discussing scales (major, minor, and modes), chords, cadences, modulation, and understanding the functions of various chords within the keys. Handouts were available after every session to remember the main points - very helpful. During the lectures, which were interactive via Zoom chat, concepts were explained as many times as necessary to ensure full understanding, taking into consideration different learning styles and musical backgrounds. Real-life music examples of each concept were provided and discussed using familiar songs available on YouTube. There were two optional personal projects (to harmonize a folk song of your choice) which you could turn in and get personalized feedback - so helpful. This course was enjoyable at all times, and provided a solid understanding of harmony principles to allow students to create their own arrangements. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have a better understanding of music."
"Logical, comprehensive, intuitive, down to earth, open, friendly & humorous. The list goes on.
It’s like learning from an expert who is a good friend who cares about you.
Heather never makes you feel under-valued or judges our goals as being insignificant. That nurturing (and fun) relationship is motivating and helps one to “show up” for her in every possible way.
Heather is not only an excellent teacher, but a breath of fresh air."
"Great exercise for my brain cells!
The material is presented clearly, both in the live meeting and in the handouts, and the quiz and homework really help to make all the new information sink in."
"I love your approach of empowering harpists musically so we can create our own arrangements. I'm looking forward to being more creative and musically-aware at the harp. Basically, I want to take any class you offer as long as I can afford it!
Someday I hope you'll consider teaching teachers. I'm not a harp teacher so I probably wouldn't be in those classes, but I would love for more teachers to learn how to teach in your style"
